Fox N Feel interview + Grooveslanger Radio Ep. 010 guest mix

Grooveslanger shares some words with Juliette Felippelli of Fox N Feel to find out more about Los Angeles’ rising DJ/producer duo. Be sure to check out their new mix compilation “Just Play It Vol. 2″ on Grooveslanger Radio Episode 010.

You two may very well be the world’s first husband/wife DJ duo. Where did you guys meet?

We actually met in a club in Rio de Janeiro – Diogo was the DJ and I was the foreign exchange student sitting at the bar.  I requested a Felix da Housecat remix. The rest is history :)

What’s the best part of the club scene in Rio?

We would definitely say there is a lot of respect for the DJ from the club owners and promoters, which is appreciated.  The public in Rio, and all of Brazil for that matter, also really enjoy going to the club for the music and to just party all night.  It’s a very educated crowd when it comes to house music – people know what’s going on in the international music scene and get excited about all tracks, not just the mainstream ones.

Do your South American roots translate into your sound?

Absolutely! Our South American influences differentiate ourselves from a lot of the other local DJs – we always try to bring a little bit of Rio and the passion inside the South American clubs into all of our sets.

Tell us about your production method in the studio…

Diogo gets his best ideas when driving around and then creates a specific sound based on his ideas.  I’m a little more unorthodox and like to pull ideas from other genres and see how we can make new sounds, without a specific idea in mind.  From there, Diogo is real master of the studio, but we collaborate on the overall sound of the track throughout the process. We work very well creatively together – I think of ourselves as very Yin and Yang.

What are some familiar names showing up in your sets lately?

We love David August, Steve Lawler and Nic Fanciulli – these guys have mastered how to create a groovy tech track that works great on the dance floor.

Has your taste in music evolved at all over the years?

Diogo’s taste in music has changed – he used to like mainly big room tracks and now he prefers something a little more edgy, something unexpected.  I don’t think my taste in music has changed much – I am always drawn to unique tracks, or ones that I can emotionally connect to.

Who are some of your biggest influences in your music?

For me, it would be Daft Punk.  I listened to their Alive 1997 album and I knew I wanted to be a DJ, that album is insane! Anything with a disco melody will do it for me too. Diogo is really influenced by Moby’s early works and nu-rave/indie artists like Chromeo.

Do you listen to anything outside of the dance genre?

Diogo is a major house head, but I listen to just about everything.  Some of my favorite artists right now are brazilian like Marcelo D2, Ceu and Bebel Gilberto.  I also love Jamiroquai, Florence and the Machine and Al Green.

Tell us about your favorite club night this summer.

We just went to the Love Festival in SoCal last weekend and had an awesome time.  It was a smaller festival, but it was at a great outdoor venue and had some of our favorites like Felix da Housecat, Nic Fanciulli and Funkagenda.  We also love going to the Avalon or King King in Hollywood on Saturday nights.

Do you have any big releases or other plans for this fall?

We are planning to release our single Danzze this fall and are in the process of booking another tour to Brazil this December.  We will have all the information on our Facebook page at Facebook.com/FoxNFeel or on Twitter @foxnfeeldjs.
