Pop, meet dance: The top 5 dance-pop songs

Electronic dance music invades the American mainstream.

From dubstep bass lines to old school Euro dance vocals and melodies, American pop music has seen a drastic increase in EDM sounds that not long ago many artists wouldn’t have touched with a 10-foot pole.

Most recently it’s been The Black Eyed Peas’ new single “Just Can’t Get Enough,” from their album “The Beginning,” which came out at the end of last year. For those who haven’t heard it yet, the song features a major twist after what was already a perfectly solid tune.

Give it a listen along with these four others and tell us which (if any!) is your favorite. Of course, these are just a few of many dance pop hits on the airwaves lately, let us know any others we might have missed in the comment box at the bottom of the post!

By Tommy Butala

As the bartender said in “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,” “times are changing you know, the ladies can do stuff now.” And do stuff they can indeed.

Now, in all seriousness, the idea of a woman breaking down gender roles in the workplace is hardly new. Even in DJing, plenty of women have done it before. In Chicago during the 1990s DJ Psycho Bitch and Teri Bristol had a long-running residence at Crobar and were some of the biggest names around. And who can forget DJ Polywog, the raved-out DJ from the movie “Groove?”

Lately though, in the new age of EDM, a fresh generation of girl DJs have taken command of the decks and taken dance music to a whole other level. As you read on, check out some of the music and history on these ladies and let us know: who’s your favorite?
